book club reject...

I used to be in a book club.  It was fun.  I enjoyed the group of women even more than the books, and I really like books.  These women are adorable, wise, funny, accomplished and all that jazz.  Last night, I returned to Book Club.  Okay, not "returned" really, just stopped by for a visit.

Remember my recent breakfast guest, Dee?  Dee is a member of said Book Club, and she was the host for last nights meeting.  Dee invited me to join the "social hour" and the theme was Mardi Gras my friends.  Mardi Gras!  Dee is from Lousianna after all, and the girl can throw a shindig.  There were masks and beads, maps of Lousianna, books and CD's, and food!  Just take a look at that mask above - it welcomed me when I walked in the door!

I thought you might enjoy sneakin' a peek at the party.  I apologize for any blurry photos - it's hard to take a photo of people when they are laughing.  I can't imagine why there was so much laughter.  I mean, I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but take a close look at what Doras has in her hand.

Seems Terry, in the other room, had the same case of the giggles - and the same drink, coincidence?

Have you been to Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans?  They were represented last night as well.  I wonder if they will ever have "gluten-free" beignetsA girl can dream can't she?

I didn't partake of the "dirty rice" because it had meat in it.  I did however, find some "clean" rice leftover near the stove and snuck a little of that on my plate - along with a sweet potato and some pralines.  Shhhh.

This is Diane.  More specifically, this is Diane's wrist.  She wore her "beads".  Diane is the most put together, stylish woman I know.  I don't think she owns a pair of sweats or jeans.

Funny tidbit about funny Diane. I once told a story at Book Club about how I always put random occupations in the blanks on forms - usually pertaining to whatever book we were reading.  As a result, I've had many different "pretend" occupations.  Well, Diane told us she always puts the same thing for her occupation..........."Trophy Wife".  LOVE IT.  Can you imagine what people think when they read that?

More beads, masks, and even maps pertaining to the book.  I'm telling you...

For the record, I left Book Club on good terms.  Just had a tad too much going on in my life and a few things had to go - Book Club was one of those things.  I do miss it.  As a joke, I considered making a t-shirt to wear last night that read "Book club reject", wouldn't that have been funny?  Ahhh, so many ideas, so little time.

I hope you enjoyed coming to Dee's "Mardi Gras Book Club" party with me.

What a fun evening, I love it! Now that's my kind of 'Book Club'. Thanks for taking us to the party and for all those great photos. Looks like Dee did a great job with the theme.

I really like that photo of the tree with the decorations and the mask. It looks eerie in a Nawlin's kinda way...

seriously you could shoot for any magazine.

did you know that gal on THE VIEW the young blond has a gluten allergy and she said SURVIVOR saved her life. when she was on survivor, ironically, she felt better than ever and discovered when she got home that she has the intolerance.

just a p.s. on the postcard blog.
i found some adorable old post cards at this little 'puce' in a small town in Provence and wondered what to do with them. I did make some cards out of some for Easter since they had pictures of colored eggs. The rest, I found a double sided frame and put them in so you could see front and back.
Brings back nice memories, especially the yummy lunch I had right on the river after walking around the market. Adorable town. Isle sur la Sorgue. Not sure of the spelling.
On another note, I love buckwheat crepes and will have to try to make! need that recipe.

Gee - that just makes me yearn for a book club! The one available to me here is a "bring your kids and let them play at our feet" kind of deal. Now let us remember - my boys are 5 and 2 and ALL boy........I'll wait while it sinks in.......yep, playing at my feet while I discuss a book that I have found time in the wee small hours to read.....I'm sorry, can't even write it with a straight face! Something to aspire to in my next season of life! :-D

Thank you. Yes, I do know about her gluten allergy. Read her book. I am impressed you made beignets! I bought the mix once and eventually had to throw it out because it had expired - was a bit duanting.

This does look like a beautiful party... And I can't imagine anything better than books... And maybe when they get to school Maria!

That 'Book Club' gathering looks like it was as much fun as Mardi Gras in new Orleans! Great hostess! I went to a Potluck, 35 ladies, way too much food! I didn't over-indulge but had a mixture of wonderful food! I also limited myself to one dessert, lemon pound cake.

I miss pound cake - will have to look for a good gluten-free recipe.

Gorgeous afternoon here in Long Beach...I'm reading your back posts..I believe the quote"Don't explain...."came from the quotes of Elbert Hubbard, The leader of The Roycrofters" not 100% if he said it first, but that is where I saw it...What kind of camera do you use?? All the best, Cynthia
