susie...

I got a phone call yesterday.  It was Susie.  Susie is 75 years old.  She is what one might call, "a funny broad" and I say this with great affection.  Susie is my neighbor and she wanted me to come over for a "minute".  This is what I saw standing in her doorway...

That's Susie in all her glory - holding an Easter present for us (baked goods which were not gluten-free so they were actually for Andrew Henry, but I don't mind).  Is that not adorable?  I made her some potato corn chowder the other day and she wanted to thank me.  I love where I live.  This is her companion, "buddy".

Buddy is chewing his green toy from St. Patrick's Day.  Sometimes we find Buddy out wandering the neighborhood and we have to take him home.  Sometimes Buddy is a stinker, but Susie loves him anway.  Want to know the coolest thing about Susie?  Susie is originally from New York and from the age of 18 to 28 she was a NYC Rockette.  How cool is that?  Can't you just tell?

Ahhh, she's great.  She asked me to come sit for a minute.  I wanted to tell her I had a big jewelry order to finish, Easter preparations to take care and dinner to prepare but you know, you can't.  How do any of us not have time for a lonely neighbor?  We do, we should.  By the by, that "minute" turned into two hours.  She can tell a story that broad.  AH brought home dinner, the order got finished and  I will figure out Easter later.  All is well.

Do you have a "Susie" in your neighborhood?

I grew up with a "susie" in the neighborhood. She was a loved by all the children. I haven't thought of her in years. Thank you for the reminder. Yes, we all should make time for those "susies" out there.

How cool that she was a rockette. I love it! Too bad you didn't have an old picture of her from then, but still, cool story. Making me wonder what some of the older people in my neighborhood may have done when they were young. Maybe I'll ask.

I totally did know a lady like this when I was little. She lived next door to my Grandparents and she used to leave bubbles out on her porch for all the kids to just come by and play with. She was rad cool. I don't remember her name because everybody called her "meemah". My Grandma told me she had been kind of a bigwig when she was young but I have no idea in what.
Still can't log in, KC.

We have a "Red" - he's 88 and quite a character. Walking home from the train this afternoon I saw him sitting on his front porch, smoking his cigar, and had to stop catch up on life...it's been a long winter inside. Everyone always stops to chat. Red has lived on this block - in three different houses - for about 75 years. Just like Susie, Red has the best stories and I too have spent hours sitting with him on his porch discussing life.

I also have an Gladys Kravits right across the street. Anyone else have one like that !!!!
