On our last few trips to Chicago, we have, with little success, tried to eat at Frontera Grill. Timing, waits, whatever - it just hadn't happened.....until this trip. It was good, different and fresh and I'm tickled to have finally eaten there. I have never tasted mexican food as good as the plates offered up here in the southwest but Frontera was authentic and that was nice. It seemed to be very carnivore friendly which left me only a few options - still it was good and very southwest worthy. Join us won't you?
Cool planters outside no?
The greeter on the way to the ladies room...
Instead of a bread basket (which is good news for me)...
Gotta start with chips, salsa and a little guac'...
Dinner...
This kind of says it all no?
I think Mexican food might be my favorite - what about you?

Am I wrong or is this Skip Bayless's restaurant? I have ALWAYS wanted to eat there. We in Texas take our Mexican Food seriously and He is one of the best at it.
Wow! I have a deep seeded need (ha ha) to know what the nuts were tossed/roasted in! What a great alternative to the chip/bread basket - and so very healthy too! We all quite familiar with my serious problem with nuts and their various butters! Are those plantains I spy! Oh my! I am so going to try cooking them this week - bought one yesterday to give it a go.....looking for suggestions for the best way to try first people - let's have it! I know you are all a vast wealth of information!
As for favorite food....it is an all out tie for me - simply cannot choose. I LOVE, LOVE Mediterranean foods of all kinds and am also equally fond/addicted to Mexican foods. Preferably the kind you described - fresh ingredients true southwest, even Tex/Mex style..and yes that includes TONS of Cilantro (I know - if you hate it - it tastes like soap to you - I get it, I also disagree :-D) - but please, keep you pre-fab canned gloppiness to yourself! Yeck!
That is one awesome greeter! And Mexican food is delicious, but I prefer Indian.
Yes Cash&Co.,
It is Rick Bayless. He's got a few other places there as well, one is next door and another down the street, we might try that one next time.
Maria,
We did plantains again last night, don't let it get too ripe, squish it down to so it's much more flat, then let 'er rip in some olive oil - brown on all sides. Don't remember the flavor of the nuts - also love them.
Wow...this all looks so amazing! I am feeling a need for a Mexican Feast...thanks for sharing...happy week to you.
Mexican all the way. I have always wanted to eat at Frontera!
Mexican food away from the Southwest just isn't the same.
The Playhouse Resaurant in Mandurah used to serve a roasted chicken salad with cashews and a dressing that was 'food for the gods'. It was the most expensive dish on the menu but the expense was softened by the sheer delight of a once in a while indulgence and, no less heavenly, the certainty that the dolphins would come to visit in the bay if one timed the meal correctly. This little restaurant is attached to the theatre and situated right on the foreshore, just minutes away from where I live.
Wow, I think I would be willing to sit and chew glass if I knew there were going to be some dolphins coming in for a visit. That sounds fabulous.
My favorite food is Mexican, Italian, Chinese or American. ;-)
Ok, how about blogging about the Art Museum or something...I’m off to get a burrito now!
Oooh, yeah, Mexican food! Carnivore-friendly actually does it for me, I love meat (I know, I know!). Will have to try it, I bet there's one in Atlanta.
