the drake...

While I'm busy dreaming up my next vacation to someplace cold, I'm reminded of my recent trip to the windy city.

I like an old hotel.  A place with some history and character, a place like The Drake Hotel.  Do you know it?  Have you been?  It's oh so glamorous and quite chic.  We did not stay there but that doesn't mean we did not go there.  No it does not.

Walking home (hotel home) from a pizza dinner one evening, we stopped in at The Drake.  We wandered in to look around, saw an amazing room with a bar, plopped ourselves down in some rather plush seats and had ourselves a little after dinner refreshment.  It was lovely.  The service was impeccable and the decor was elegant.  It's nice to be a little fancy once in a while don't you think?

Would you like to join us?

Bathroom?  I was confused when I walked in and there were no sinks...

They were hidden.  Each "stall" has their own sink.  No washing your hands in public at The Drake my friends - that just wouldn't do...

So, if a hotel like The Drake, doesn't fit into your travel budget - no worries.  Stop in for afternoon tea, a late night dessert or even just a morning cup of coffee.  It's a nice treat.

Here's my question - do you check out the ladies room in a well appointed establishment, just to take a look?

There is NOTHING little about THAT fancy! How divine! What fun!
and yes, I check out the bathrooms. It can tell you a lot.
Lovely photos! What an exquisite place. I'll bet our Henley knows of some place equally divine in NYC, no?

WOW! So fancy! I ALWAYS check out the ladies room ... and am usually in awe that there's yet another classy ladies room so different from all the others! But I have to tell you, I've never been in one where each stall has its own sink!

Okay, I've never checked out the restrooms before but I will now - I had no idea I could be missing such fancy-ness!

Have stayed at The Drake. Great place, old style glamour. Did not see that particular bathroom, probably because I could just use the one in my room. I usually check out the facilities before I will even eat in a new place. You can tell a lot from the shape of a bathroom.

I never check out the ladies rooms. It would be inappropriate. ;-)

I am imagining times when ladies wore gloves and hats during all seasons! The Drake would have been full of affluent guests and those vanities were probably used a lot more back then than they are now.
I do like to check the 'Ladies Room' in elegant restaurants and hotels, sometimes there are surprises like this one at the Drake. Private vanities in those stalls too, how very chic!

I have seen some extraordinary Ladies' rooms in my time but never one with private sinks and/or vanities. I do like to explore the Ladies' rooms at posh places. Afternoon tea at the Drake would be delightful.

It seems to me that you do the coolest things. I have gone to Palm Springs and Chicago but I don't find these things. I go to restaurants but I never see them the way you do. Maybe that's what blogs are all about. Helping us see things a different way. I have never walked into a place like this just for a drink. I only think about doing "vacation" things when I'm on vacation. I'm going to do something like this next time. Thank You for the idea.

The Drake....I'm from the windy city. Luckily once, many moons ago, I was part of a wedding that took place there. Divine, it was, I must say. Must go back now that you've reminded me. And I'll check out the ladies loo.
