things i love thursday...

Back in April, I posted about a childhood book I loved.  Then a weird thing happened.  I have had that book for about 35 years (that's hard to believe) and have never seen another one, even though I know they certainly exist.  That's not the weird thing, that's not even weird.  My neighbor mows his backyard and I know very well there is nothing but dirt back there.  That's a little weird.

The weird thing about this story is that a few days after the post, my mother, finder of everything,  happens to be out and just stumbles upon what appears to be a sequel of sorts to the Bear/Duck adventure.  This kind of freaks me out.  There were more adventures?  Okay, these are not classic literature, they are simply quick cute stories.  It's just that Two Good Friends  struck a chord in me as a child and I would love to have read more about these characters when I was young.  I couldn't believe I hadn't had that book out since my daughter was little, she's 24 now, and the same week I pull it out, my mother comes across this...

There they are!  Bear and Duck in all their cuteness and it appears they have a new friend in the mix.  So fun for me to thumb through it...

I mention it today because I had some childhood friends over yesterday.  It's lovely to visit with old friends don't you think?  I took "blotos" so I'll share our visit with you next week.  What?  You don't know what a "bloto" is?  It's what Andrew Henry (and now the rest of my family) call photos for the blog.  BLOG + PHOTO = BLOTO.  Just before everyone is about to eat, I pull out my camera and they all yell "BLOTOS".   I'm sure if you blog, your friends and family are use to this as well.

Do you still have friends from your childhood?

Jeanette--I just got back in town after visiting my family in Georgia, and I returned to find your GORGEOUS necklace waiting for me! I love it sooooo much, and it's already so special to me. Thank you so much for such a sweet, generous giveaway. :) I will wear the necklace, think of you, and hope I can live up to its message!

how neat is that! :)

i actually don't have friends from childhood. college is as far back as mine go. but my mom still has friends from childhood! they get together at least once a year, the four of them. and take trips together. my mom says she feels like a kid again when she's with them. and they've been there through every event in each others lives, marriages, divorces, cancer, children, new jobs...it's so lovely. i'm so glad anyone has this~~~

Jeanette, isn't it funny the things we stumble upon.

I am still sort of in my "just out of childhood years" haha, so yes I do have some friends from when I was very young, others have sadly drifted apart.

I do have friends from childhood. I feel so lucky to still be in touch with these people.

My oldest friend is from the 6th grade, not quite as old as yours, but special nonetheless.

You know, I feel like I remember this book! We read tons and tons of children's books when we were little, so maybe I ran across it! That is such a cool little story, Jeanette!

Funny, that party scene looks like a few I've been to. Still have two close friends from childhood (and my sister who I think counts). Now, why DOES your neighbor mow his dirt? I think you should ask because I am quite curious now.

I still have a few. The oldest I still keep in touch with was a friend I used to play little league baseball with.

The farthest back that I can go for strictly a friend is middle school/high school. But my oldest friends (and actually some of my dearest) are also family. I have these two cousins, one from either side of my family that I consider more sisters to me than cousins, and then there is my actual sister, who, happily, is also my friend. One cousin, I have know since birth, and we even went to college together, which is when we became really close. And the other, well, you know that story.
I am with Henley (who's posts I have missed) on the whole mowing the dirt thing. I had a neighbor growing up, very elderly, country lady, who didn't grow grass in her yard and she swept it daily (literally, with a broom) to keep it "clean" (maybe tidy is a better word). But even that doesn't seem weird now - not next to mowing!

I'm getting married in a few weeks and one of my bridesmaids is a friend from Kindergarten! We grew up really close to each other, went to the same high school and have been friends ever since! :)

This post makes me feel nostalgia for a childhood book my brother and I used to read over and over. It was called "Oh how wonderful is Panama" -- loosely translated from German :)

Please come join my *Cupcake Challenge*, I promise it will be loads of fun!!
