things i love thursday...

I picked up a couple vintage restaurant plates and platters a few months ago.  Didn't need them and wasn't looking for dishes, but they called my name so I brought them home.  They're heavy and they feel good in my hand.  I like to think about how many people have touched them - oh the stories they could probably tell.

I don't even put them in the cupboard - nope.  I leave them on the cooktop so I can just grab them whenever I need a plate.  I don't think Andrew Henry likes them but I'm pretending he loves them as much as I do, and that's working out fairly well for me so far.
The bottoms are pretty cool too...

Do you have a favorite plate or cup?

Use to collect the Homer Laughlin. You've got some nice pieces there. The way a plate, or spoon or glass etc., feels in your hand is directly proportionate to your enjoyment of a meal. Does Andrew Henry have any single brothers?

When drinking my tea at home I use only my bone china mugs, tea is just better in a china cup, my china teacups don't hold enough tea for me! :)(mug seems such a heavy word for such a delicate cup!). My favorite 'mug' is decorated with a beautiful red rose. Roses are my favorite flowers. I have had a number of sets of decorated dishes. My present dishes are all pure white and are Johnson Brothers, hexagonal shape, I like the simplicity of white. I am a neatnik and don't like to cook so my dishes are out of sight in the cupboards!

I like white china too. I used to have a couple of favourite patterned china teacups, but I like the elongated bone china mugs now for tea or coffee, so I agree with kroney's comment above.I make an exception for a big clunky white mug from Ikea, part of a mother's day basket from daughter. It states in garish loud writing "world's greatest mum".Nice to have those kinds of pats on the back with a comforting cup of tea.x

My favorite are some blue plates we bought at Target in NOLA for my first dorm room. I love the shape and size. I only have 3 and I always wish I would have bought more!

Surprise surprise - I have no idea which plates you are referring to.

When I got married, we registered for Crate and Barrel all white dishes - and surprise they are just what you are describing - Diner Wear! Nice, heavy plates (with just enough lip to ward off spills) and nice, deep mugs - perfect for morning coffee! We love it as much today as we did at first 14 years ago - AND - it still looks new!

My favorite tea cup is from my BFF! No one touches it but me! I love it so much sometimes I use it to display little flowers. xo

I love the fact you leave them on the cook top! So chic! Good score. I'm a plate lover. Any kind, any age

All my favorites, as you know. Love restaurant ware. Have a complete set of
'Navy' ware from the US Navy.

my favorite plate is stored in a little cupboard table. it is from a beach town in southern spain where i spent the night in a converted palacio, which is now a lovely 5 room hotel. no tv, phone, internet. i had the most relaxing breakfast in the courtyard and they let me keep the plate. it is pale yellow with a family crest of some sort.

i tell my students who travel to buy a small plate to remind them of their trips. and have dessert on them at a party! but they always buy bric a brac for their friends.
