how is there no jewelry on the counter...

That's the question my daughter asked in the comments last week when she saw the photos of our kitchen counter on the blog.  Wasn't that sweet of her to point out that the counter is usually covered in jewelry?  Kids, they say the darndest things.

Here's the deal.  Most of you know I have a  jewelry shop.  I sell vintage jewelry, handstamped metal jewelry and combinations of things.  The combination part is where the jewelry clutter comes from.  I combine bits and bobs of vintage pieces with other vintage pieces or with stamped pieces to create new pieces (that's a lot of pieces).  I buy vintage pieces that may be showing their age a bit too much, a missing rhinestone or dent, but still have a little something to offer design wise, to use in a future creation.  I leave them out so when I am creating a piece I can see what what I've got, what my options are, you know?

As I sit here at my desk typing this, I am surrounded by beads, clasps, chains, tools etc.  This is the left pull out part of my desk right now...

This is the counter behind my desk...

and the looty I just picked up in Sedona last weekend has already started to take over my kitchen counter again...

Here's what I'm working on this week.  The best way to attach this vintage brooch to this bangle is eluding me so it sits on the counter waiting...

I like how this petite vintage brooch looks with this Victorian French Jet necklace but I'm stumped about the part of the piece that will go around the neck - chain or more French Jet, so it sits on the counter waiting...

I've hand wired all these pearl beads together but I think they need a vintage cameo on them somewhere.  I have many cameos, it's just the which one and where right now so they sit on the counter waiting...

If I put them all away I will forget about them completely.  You see the problem right?  By the way, the answer to the "how is there no jewelry on the counter" question is........I moved it to the dining room table for the photo of course.  It's still there.  We're eating in the kitchen again.

What's your biggest clutter problem?  Mine is this jewelry and the mail - oh how that piles up around here...

A cameo on that necklace would be gorgeous! I love cameos. You need a little studio space. Do you have a spare bedroom you could convert? I think your cousin needs to include a pic. of her dachshund for the 4 photos next week!! xo

Ugh! The mail. Definitely the mail. And we don't have a very good filing system set up so paperwork in general is a problem. And books too. They aren't clutter but we have more books than we have shelf space for. The are everywhere. One of these days I'll get around to getting new shelves but for now, watch out for the piles. :) Love that bangle!

First of all, your jewelry is GOR-geous! I've fallen off the jewelry-making bandwagon bad, and this is simply inspiring! Second, I'm soo impressed you corralled it in so well, my biggest problem is also jewelry pieces (I want to see them too :), and the leftover bits and bobs of files on my computer!

You are all welcome to come and play anytime - perhaps we could have an "organize it as you go" party.

oy.... right now... we still don't have everything put away from the move in so our biggest problem is going through stuff finding it a home :)

Now see - I LIKE your messes!
Our clutter used to be the mail - but now have a policy that we make a decision about it as SOON as each piece goes through our fingers - keep/trash? then the keeps get filed into the proper places - bills onto the computer desk, etc. But NOW, now it is kid papers....art work, books, papers from this activity or that. School papers - now those - they out number me so severely - that may be a loosing batter for the time being.

PS - love the idea of eating in the kitchen - most fun stuff happens there anyway!

My biggest clutter problem is an obvious one. The garage. And....let's not forget about the side of the garage! ;-)

OMG, the mail is ridiculous in our house. We pile it up on the dining room table. It's terribly unsightly!
