the plant whisperer...

You may or may not have noticed, I kind of checked out for a week or so.

My daughter was home for a visit, my husband had a birthday (thank you to everyone who left comments wishing him a happy day) and my Etsy shops are keeping me extremely busy - blah blah blah.  I might be kind of checking out for good soon, I sway back and forth and that decision so much it makes me dizzy.

It seriously takes me about 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, to keep my shops stocked, fill orders and get my shipments out.  Other than eating breakfast and playing a few games of Racko with Andrew Henry, I just don't get to any thing else - forget dinner, I almost never get to that.  I don't know how you all do it.  I can get posts together, no problem.  It's the getting to visit all of your blogs that I just can't seem to manage much anymore and we all know that this blogging world is a tit for tat kind of place so my comments are drying up - so are my plants.  Speaking of drying up, it's still 99 degrees outside as I type this at 7:00 p.m.!

For example...

Another poor dead plant.  It didn't survive our summer, heck I almost didn't survive our summer.  I didn't even notice it was begging for attention and now it's gone.  I don't feel good about it.  I've got this one on its last leg as well...

To be fair, this one got infested with agave beetles.  There is a remedy but it involves digging a trench around the outside of the plant and blah blah, honestly they lost me at "digging".  I decided I should not play mother nature.  I mean, I would be saving the plant, but depriving the agave beetle of a food source.  Who am I to make that choice?  It's survival of the fittest right?

Okay, I admit it - it was about the digging of the trench.  If I don't have time to blog or stop to eat dinner, I really don't have time to dig a darn trench.  Long live the agave beetle.

Wow, that's a lot of work. Will you be closing up shop and blog?

No no, the shops are doing great and although they take up the majority of my life - I love running them. It's just the blogging that will probably have to go.

seeing you go will be quite sad - but one must prioritize to save one's sanity and frankly one's joy. Bravo for the success of your shops! With regard to your vegetation woes, more than survival of the fittest - I think it is the cycle of life....think it is also applicable to your decision you are trying to make, no?

Good call Maria. And I would totally stick with the not wanting to mess with mother nature story. It's totally believable. :)

I too vote for letting mother nature go since I would be the one digging the trench. ;-)

laughing! I'd skip the digging too. And I also wonder how to keep up with everything while balancing so many plates...

Yes, prioritize! For goodness sake eat lunch and dinner!
Go Etsy shops! Yay!
I have collected more seeds, going to get them started soon, A.H. will be able to replace that dead plant. I also have more "baby" Agaves, perhaps when the beetle has moved on you, I mean A.H. can plant again.

I think that many can empathisize with your plight (both garden and life!). Whilst I would miss your blog, one must make choices based on the those aspects of life that are valued most (sometimes those change). Wishing you well in finding what you need - J.

I have enjoyed reading your blog and will be sorry to see you go but... You only have so much time in a day.

The blogs I read I really enjoy because of who writes them or where they are based. I have tried to keep the blog numbers down.
As you said it is hard to keep up and I spend why too much time on the computer. I don't always comment on every blog and sometimes will comment once for several posts.

Your shops are wonderful and will keep checking them out.

Take care, your Tucson friend...
cheers, parsnip

I have the same problem, except we do have dinner every night but I never have time to list anything. I might try the etsy diet and see if I can lose a few pounds by listing and not cooking. lol ;)

I would not have found your shop without your blog. I ordered from your daughter yesterday because of your blog. Maybe you can hire a cook? hehe ;)

i hear you! i don't know how women do it either. i LOVE when my husband says 'you don't have to go to work today, do you?' my answer is 'no, work is right here.' are you kidding? it is easier to go to work. i would like a sign in the house 'it is not clean because it was never dirty...' enough of my rant. you have a FABULOUS blog and shops but you do what is best for you.
