far to go...

This morning's baby post got me thinking about this nursery rhyme...

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child born on the Sabbath Day,
Is fair and wise and good and gay.

My mother was born on a Thursday.  I was born on a Thursday.  My daughter was born on a Thursday.  Isn't that interesting?  We were also born 20 years apart - each of us in a year ending in 6.  I was thinking about the "Thursday's child has far to go" part.  What does it mean?

It could be many things.  If I were applying it to my mother, perhaps it meant she would, as a young woman, leave her homeland in England and to make a new life far away in the desert of Arizona.  For my daughter, It could mean she will accomplish much in her life.  A hard working and driven smarty pants, she will go far that one, of this I am certain.  Me?  I have no idea.

It could refer to the fact we have all travelled quite a bit throughout our lives.  Do Thursday's children travel far physically?  Is it as simple as that?  I was going to say I'd rather be Tuesdays' child and be full of grace, but then I thought, no, Friday's child is better - loving and giving, yes that's a better quality. Really though, secretly, I might vote for Monday's child - fair of face sounds selfishly good. I know one thing........glad it wasn't Wednesday for me.
Who knows, it might just be a silly nursery rhyme.  I am 100% sure that is what Andrew Henry will think.  Oh, he'd be a good sport and play along, but he'll think it's ridiculous.  You know why???  He was born on a Wednesday, poor fella.  It's fun to play these games don't you think?

What day of the week were you born?
