The best of intentions...

I have a little weekend wrap up post to share with you a bit later.  First, let me paint you a picture.

After a brisk morning walk (in the dark) with Andrew Henry and dog, I put on a pot of steel cut oats (gluten-free goodness).  Then I threw in a handful of flaxseeds, couple dashes of cinnamon, some dried cranberries and left it to simmer.  I was feeling pretty good about our healthy start to the week.

I have previously mentioned my 40's are robbing me of my short-term memory (I have right?).  What happens when you don't turn the "simmer" knob all the way down and you leave the kitchen, forgetting you started cooking at all....

Luckily, what was left inside was very edible and yummy.  What was left outside was not edible, nor did it look very yummy.  There is an ocean of it under that pot people.  AN OCEAN PEOPLE!

I got no sympathy from Andrew Henry.  He was busy cleaning dog vomit off the dining room rug.

I am now reminding myself, we are lucky we have food, a kitchen to cook it in and even more blessed to have someone to share it with.  A little dog vomit is nothing because we get to have our dog with us every day - easier for me to say because I didn't have to clean it up but I know AH feels the same.

How did you start your week?

I laughed out loud when I saw that picture of the oatmeal! I'm glad I didn't have to clean that up. :-)

Sounds delicious, and I would take oatmeal cleanup over vomit cleanup ANY DAY.

Mine was MUCH better than yours! Instead of the drive by pooping that my sweet 13 year old dachshy has been blessing me with each morning (and that my 2 year old thinks he needs to emulate!) - I was elated to instead be wakened by a thousand hugs, kisses and snuggles from my two favorite little munchkin men! Just carried you through whatever may come the rest of the day! :-D I'm still all warm and fuzzy!

Both cleanup jobs would have been mine and mine alone!! Can't complain....had breakfast out this morning! Glad there was enough goodness left in your pan!

My week started with a mouse! It had gained entry to the garage and was feasting inside the birdseed bag stored there. I feed the birds before I get dressed. It was freezing out there this morning and the mouse was either frozen with fright or didn't relish the idea of going out into the frosty morning, it took a more than a few taps on the bag to make it leave! Reminder to self, "store the seed in a closed container!" Let the mouse help itself to the seed I scatter on the ground outside.

Oh Sunshine that's funny because I'm imagining "Templeton" in there feasting away.

I'm telling you we lead a similar life. The dog was unheard of for 20 minutes or so outside in the wild (thanks to said daughter). Sunday night after young ones retired to bed I heard a loud uprising facet like noise from said dogs mouth. I spent the next 30-40 minutes cleaning up said vomit. Oh the wonderful noise Mr. Brown can do, can you ?

I planted a garden. And I cannot wait for something to grow. It will allow me to leave it on too long a do a little cleaning of my own. I am a master at letting things overflow the pot and flood everything in sight.
My favorite one is when I tried to make chocolate cups for my chocolate mousse. I used a balloon to form the cup shape. Well, my chocolate was left on a little too long... bang... You can imagine what happened. But I still return to the kitchen and, oh well, that's what rags are for. And the memory thing, way overrated. Apparently you can live without it for decades.
