the answer is...

CHICAGO
Andrew Henry and I both LOVED the book The Devil in the White City which chronicled the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.  On our last trip to Chicago, we made sure to drive around the area of the fair and luckily stumbled upon this morning's statue.  It was quite a treat if you've read the book.   You can click on the image if, like me, your less young eyes would appreciate it a bit bigger.  I am way too lazy to type that whole thing out for you.  Don't get me wrong, I adore you and will bake you a cake and put out fresh linens should you stop by for a visit, but I'm not typing when a click will do.  I've got laundry to do.

Did you read the book?

NEVER would have guessed. The book was a page turner and I've been to Chicago many times but never put the two together. Clever!

The book was fabulous. I'm an audio-book person and if you've never tried it, this is the book to start with.

i did read it, recently, and found it very interesting. i think he could have done a better job making the parts on the architecture and actual construction more interesting though.

Hmmm - I've read the book and loved it. I work in the Loop and have pointed out & explained all the buildings mentioned in the book to my coworkers - and I still didn't guess it was Chicago.
Is the statue by the Museum?

Oh dear, I couldn't say exactly, it's in Jackson Park along the long strip where the fair once stood. It's in the middle of a roundabout - does that help?

Jeanette - I have a funny story of how I, along with 4 of my book club buddies stumbled upon the statue - remind me to share that with you when we are home for Christmas this year!

AH - Scott finally took your advise and listened to the audio book - with a carpool buddy no loss! They both really enjoyed it! Last weekend we tried to take the architecture tour but got rained out....

I have the book sitting on my bookshelf but I haven't read it yet - and it's been a couple of years. Apparently I should get to it!

My friend just finished it and is going to lend it to me. She absolutely loved it. She's been talking about it for days. I recently read the wizard of oz and when she was describing the fair to me i said "it sounds like the book version of oz". She laughed and told me that L Frank Baum was at the fair and was inspired by it. I can't wait until she brings it to me.
