i remember Max part 2...

This is part 2 of a story that began yesterday - please read part 1 first here.

My birthday came about a month into the school year. It was an an embarrasment of riches. Flowers and gifts filled the room, the parents came and I was made to wear a crown (can't say I hated that). They brought all measure of baked goods and sang and we had quite the party. Full of all my vast wonderfulness by the end of the day and trying to figure out how to carry all the presents to my car, Max wandered back into my now empty classroom.

I sat at my desk, surrounded by tokens of appreciation, and watched him walk, head down, to my desk.

"What's up Max?" I asked but got no reply.

Max reached down into his pocket, pulled out a balled up tissue and placed it on my desk, then he did something he rarely ever did, Max looked me straight in the eye.

"Happy Birthday" he said, then Max turned and walked away.

I was not prepared for that ball of tissue, not in the least.

to be continued tomorrow...

Dying to hear, I'm thinking he was crying? No, wait, there was a gift in the tissue... hmmm!

LOVE this story! It reminds me so much of an excerpt from my time spent with children(well, other people's children). I love kids - but you know me, I have a real soft spot for those little fellas.

And birthdays as a teacher - well, there has never been such a grand celebration since! Those little munchkins sure know how to make you feel special! (Though I have to admit - I NEVER received a crown!)

I feel like a fish on the line and you are reeling me in. Course, I've never been a fish but I would imagine they are wondering what is coming next?

I don't know why (it might be the paranoia inside) but this story is starting to worry me.

Max is okay, right?

This little boy is capturing my heart. Please don't let it be some dead bug or something in there. Love that picture too btw.

My curiosity is heightened!! What is written on the balled-up paper from the bad bully Max?? LOL.

You have a fantastic way of telling stories, I am really intrigued by this :)

How touching that Max felt safe enough with you to come back to the room, look at you, and tell you Happy Birthday. No doubt a big moment for him also.

My guess is that there's a colored rock inside. His favorite color - of course.
