things i love thursday...

This probably should be on one of my "vintage finds" Wednesday posts but I am so enamored it simply cannot wait and I do love it, so it qualifies as both!  If it throws you into some confusing orbit, pretend it's Wednesday.

A vintage doctor's bag.  I KNOW, isn't that exciting?  What?  This doesn't thrill you?  It thrills me.  I have wanted one to use as a purse for years, so when I spied this baby at an auction a few weeks ago, my heart skipped a beat.  I'm old, that could be dangerous.  The bidding started and I had butterflies because I had my price limit, but there were only two of us in the bidding and the other poor soul never stood a chance.

Inside were things I suppose you would expect to find in a doctor's bag - stethoscope and other wands and bandages of sorts.  The only thing that seemed a bit odd was this...

A lovely Art Nouveu hand mirror - interesting right?  I consider it a bonus.

Oh, THE BAG - sorry.  You must be on the edge of your seat. No, well nevermind - here is my new "purse"...

I know this isn't everybody's cup of tea but it is mine.  It is indeed.  I like things just a bit different.  I prefer to carry a purse no one else will be carrying.  I feel fairly confident I'm safe with this beauty but you never know.

She might not win any beauty contests but I think she's got the prize for most original in the bag (seriously I couldn't resist that one).

Have you ever used anything unique as a purse?

Don't forget to enter the necklace giveaway over at Silver Strands!

i love that bag, Jeanette. My doctor is still using a kind of copy of this bag. Always making me dream away... I believe I'm a kind of bag-o-holic ;)

The mirror is to put in front of people's mouths to check that they are breathing.
Great new handbag (which is what we call them over here)

Jeanette! You are one of a kind. I love it.

Perhaps the only interesting thing I have used as a purse was a coconut shell when I was five haha.

I LOVE this! I'd carry her!
As for a unique purse - I have carried a coconut - polished, cut and fashioned with silk lining and leather straps and brass fasteners. Loved it!

First of all, I'm in love with that hand mirror. Also, I wish you had shared pictures of the old medical equipment, that sounds fascinating!

Last but not least, that bag is gorgeous, and looks brand new!

Megan, my mother said the same thing! I still have some of it, will photograph and throw up later (meaning not today ha). The bag was pretty dirty and cobwebish - I cleaned it up.

I am LOVING this bag! Nice find. Right now I am carrying a cheapy bag from h&m that looks like a french market bag. Abby calls it my picnic purse. I daydream about using a basket as a purse like Jane Birkin.

Your new bag is incredible! I just love that you found a vintage one that suits you instead of a new one. And I'm kind of in love with the hand mirror!
