the question...

One of the questions I get asked most often is if I keep any of the items I buy for my shops.  Some things are harder to sell than others, but I like to live lightly, and even now I'm getting ready to have a garage sale and purge even more.  I don't wear much jewelry so that part is easy (although my daughter does like to "shop" in the studio when she's home) but some of the Maude & Lola items seem to be making themselves at home here.

I suppose the answer to whether or not I keep the vintage finds is - sometimes, but not often.
Found these pillows just a few weeks ago and instead of putting them in the room where I store everything, they landed on the bed and are still there.  Aren't they pretty?

This acrylic magazine holder went straight to the living room.  I didn't even pretend it was for the shop when I found it...

Haven't decided about these yet.  I put them on the edge of the kitchen counter and they've now been sitting there for months so I might have to admit I'm keeping them...

Just picked this up at an estate sale this weekend (we drove 30 miles each way for that one).  It landed in the dining room and I think it looks good in there so I'm not sure if this one is mine or heading for the shop shelves...

Now this one.  Oh I just don't know.  I love industrial type things and this vintage store display carousel is so tempting.  I mean, it freakin' spins!  Look at all those little spaces for storing cool stuff.  It is a bit bulky though and taking up some prime real estate on the counter here in my studio but I'm having a hard time deciding...

Here is thing that never makes it to my shop.  I can never resist vintage ironstone platters.  I use them as my everyday dishes.  They sit stacked on the counter.  I adore them.  I have a problem.

What about you?  What kind of shop would be hard for you to own because you'd want to keep everything?

You've found some really great things! I love your style. I do have a hard time with some of the jewelry I make and I've picked up some vintage rings and pendants that I'm keeping for myself. I don't own a shop so that helps me hold on to things. The great thing about buying the cool vintage pieces is that you can enjoy them until you get tired of them and then sell them in your shop.

Those pillows look straight out of Anthropology. Love them! And I definitely think you should keep the horse. I should never have a used book store. I wouldn't want to part with any. It would become a library except I may never even lend them out. So then what would it be? A book museum?

Those pillows are great. How do you give anything in your shop away? I'd keep it all.

I always told my friends I could never work in a nursery or bookstore because I would spend all my money there.
Maybe it is better to own the shop then you could live with something for awhile to see if it fits or not.
I too have very little "things" around. I try to keep my living spare but my studio is packed with "stuff" I have never seen a piece of paper I didn't like or use.
I love the glass cloche bell jars I have bought several in the last two years in different shapes and sizes and use them all the time.
Or are they cake/pastries coverings?

Wow I would love to see your garage sale and I love the industrial store display piece. I would buy that in a second.

cheers, parsnip

A bookstore would be a trick for me - but I guess if I were really, really careful I could read them all and then pop them on the shelf to sell....couldn't I?

Happy weekend Lovely!

PS: I'm sending some cool, rainy weather your way from my home - I heartell that it's heating up at yours. x

love seeing all your finds!
i am enamored with fabrics, so i could not have a linen shop, or dress shop
or shoe shop for that matter.
but it would be fun to be a buyer!
