The drawers were full.
All measure of tidbits from over the years lay waiting inside...
Vintage clothing labels, sewing notions, empty Bayer aspirin tin, wooden clothing pin, handy dandy household tricks book, a Kappa Alpha Theta membership card from 1959, 2 birthday candles, a cool old binder clip I'm keeping and a dog ID tag that made me tear up a little.
The main contents of the drawers were recipes. All sorts of recipes - scribbled on paper, typed on index cards, peeled off products and torn from old magazines (the bulk of them).
There is one for Double Dutch Intrigue Cake that caught my eye, Andalusian eggplant and baked eggs that I don't think I would like but sounds exotic, Cointreau frosted brownies have got to be good, as does Skillet onion bread and peach fritters with orange sauce. The recipe for "old woman's liqueur" made me smile.
I feel bad throwing them away. They were lovingly collected and saved for years. I bundled them up and they are still sitting here. I wonder if anyone collects old recipes? Is there a person out there who would thrill at the thought of reading the little 'Pillsbury 48 Butter Crust Parfait Pies' booklet? I don't know, but if you are that person, or know that person, let me know in the comments. If, by some hazy crazy chance, more than one person wants them, I'll throw the names in a hat (or drawer) and draw one.
My favorite thing were the 3 words printed on the front of a 1979 Amaretto de Saronno recipe booklet. it said...
"Cook with Love"

I would dare say that I'd love to have those recipes, but I am afraid shipping them overseas would simply be too costly. I think you for the offer, though.
The drawers themselves are interesting. That there was no one to go through them before auctioning them off, more than a little bit sad. Life's so precious and gone so fast.

Maybe you could add a recipe to each order - with a little note of what it is and where it came from. Who wouldn't like getting their own little extra surprise in the mail?!

Ohhh, those drawers are a real find! The problem I have with auctions around these parts is that they rarely have real deals :). Everyone drives the price up too high!
Love the drawers. I would love to have a whole cabinet from a old library but where would I put it ?

It has been very hot and humid in Tucson, so I think you where much hotter in Phoenix.
But thank goodness it is starting to feel like Autumn.
