keepin' it real...

Lest you think I always dine at the hippest of restaurants, spend all my time creating the most inventive of dinners and only partake of the healthiest of snacks…

Tee Pee.  That's the name of our favorite neighborhood hole in the wall, mexican food restaurant.  About once a week, often on a Tuesday for some reason, Andrew Henry stops on his way home and brings me this little number.  Cheese enchilada (corn tortilla) with rice and beans.  I usually put it on a plate and throw on some avocados (you know so it will be "healthy" - ha), but sometimes, straight out of the container works too!

What about you?  On a plate or straight out of the container?

So not fair to put up great looking mexican food (and from the southwest so it has to better) when I had to skip lunch today! I'm a container gal - single life has it's advantages.

Okay so that looks delicious. Also, I recently found out that a medium sized avocado has THIRTY grams of fat--can you believe that?? I know it's good fat, but still, I found that number a little bit staggering. Didn't stop me from eating half of a huge one last night, though. ;)

Teepee is the best! Straight out of the container - it is a very good plate substitute.

I'm salavating...

If the food is that good, the container is fine. If it's not all that, then I'm inclined to put it on a plate in an attempt to 'enhance' it.

Container! No dishes please - ruins the whole take out appeal! Love that authentic Mex! (Actually - can get good Mexicali here in FL too!)

On the whole avocado thing - focus on the calories - not the fat grams when talking about THAT kind of fat. Keep meals (3 per day + a snack) under 400cals with at least 1/3 of your calories coming from a MUFA type fat (nuts, olives, avocados, etc. (mono-unsaturated fats)) - and you are golden! Rule I try to live by.

wow! Can't say I know how many calories are in the foods I eat. Can't say I even want to. I live by Michael Pollan's rule "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants" and I'm good.

I'm with Maria re the MUFAs. I also try to live by the Michael Pollan's rule quoted by Sierra.
