things i love thursday...

Purging. Been doing it for the past few weeks and it feels so darn good.  Came across one of the things I love - the little soaps and shampoo bottles you get at hotels.

I always take them.  I stash them away like they were made of gold (or chocolate).  I started saving them as a joke for my father.  He loves them too.  I was going to get a giant bag full and wrap them up for him for Christmas - never did that so here I am with a large ziplock bag full of these puppies.

I usually put them in a basket and leave it in the guest bathroom when I have visitors.  Honestly, they almost never get used.  In my effort to purge, I'm getting rid of them.  Dumped the bag out, lined them all out on the bathroom counter and am going to use it all up and try not to bring anymore home - TRY (got a trip planned for next month so no promises).

It's easy to use up a little bottle of lotion, especially here in Phoenix during the summer.  I have very dry skin.  Shampoo and soap is easy as well.  Have put them all in the shower and will just go down the line until it's all gone gone gone!  There is this though...

A shoe mitten?  Really?  I felt the need to bring this home?  Will I ever in my life use this shoe mitten?  What is WRONG with me?  Why am I asking you so many questions?

Last one - do you use all this stuff at hotels or bring it home?

Great blog!

I always take the stuff from hotels - they are handy for travelling! And I totally agree with the satisfaction of purging stuff - I've just moved house and didn;t want to take lots of half empty bottles with me, so used up loads before I moved!
Obviously, I then bought lots more new things!

Come and take a look at my new blog

I'll give you one guess who not only takes, but also uses the shoe mitten? Yes dear friend, it's my husband & your friend Scott! He likes to keep the dress shoes looking spiffy between shoe shines!

Seriously Jeanette - that does not surprise you does it?

I used to take the whole kit and kaboodle! The shoe mittens are very handy in our shoeshine box at home. The sewing kit a must in my purse for those little emergencies away from home, and years ago a 'disposable' shower cap was provided, I used to like those. I do have a small collection of shampoos and conditioners, I use those once in a while, I no longer take those from hotels. The lotions are the only items I now take home, so handy to carry in my purse.

Oh, I love that stuff. If it's free and it smells pretty, I'll take it. And I get a rediculous amount of product from my job too so regular purgings are a necessity. It's been a while since my last purging and my bathroom is suffering. My four year old who loves nothing more then to scatter every toy she owns accross the livingroom floor told me "Mama, you should really clean up." It's bad. I have no idea what a shoe mitten is.

My church collects things like this to donate to homeless shelters.

TB - what a great idea!

Shoe mittens! Cool.

As for the samples, I can't help but pick them up, though I learned a few years ago you can donate them to women's shelters, so now I can be virtuous about my bad habit!

Happy purging!

Shoe mitten, I lol, and I have one, too! I do the same thing, except, I immediately use them, honestly, we travel so much I almost never need to buy shampoo! And my hair is short, so it really doesn't matter what kind of shampoo and conditioner I use, anyway! XO!

I take it and use it up! Don’t take the cheap stuff though, only the good stuff.

oh me too- I am the same way!

I keep them in my guest bath
and I also travel with them when I am not staying at a hotel- which we do often.

Last year we went to Phoenix for a convention and stayed at the Ritz- I still have several of those bottles and they are my fav!

Same-they are in my guest bathroom. But, I'll one up you, and it's not because I thought of it but, because my sister-in-law did. I have a tub full of unopened McDonald toys (shhh-don't tell the kids). But, when my children have children I will hand over the tub and they can show their kids what were the popular things when they were at the same age.I can't wait-but, I'll have to (and I don't mind how long, within reason)I want to still have all my senses when the time arrives.Til then, HAPPY COLLECTING

I LOVE purging - there's just something so freeing and peaceful about having everything open and clean.

It soothes the soul

No shoe mittens for this guy! Although I think I do have a travel sewing kit for some reason in my travel bag that I decided I needed like 12+ years ago. Still haul it everywhere. Still never used it. ;-)

OK- gotta throw this in there - we have donated them to the homeless shelters in our respective and ever-changing neighborhoods. But I was recently told that they can be boxed and sent as care packages to troops over seas. Just a thought. They're sweatin' in the desert (sorta like you J) men and women alike.

Bronwyn, a shoe mitten is simply a cover to place over one's hand in order to polish one's shoes.

bronwyn said...

Well, you can see how often I polish my shoes. ;)

LOL. My parents do that. My grandmother was even worse. In rebellion, I am the opposite - always tossing out things, hating what I perceive as clutter, and then regretting it later.

Molly Page said...

Sometimes I bring it home, but typically I use it there.
I have to admit I was upset when I thought you were gonna throw them all out. (I blame the hormones) Using them up will be fun though, each day will be a new scent adventure!
