pagoda 13 and happy september...

This is the 13th post in the semi-weekly (okay maybe kinda more like monthly) Wednesday morning Pagoda series which chronicles the almost 5 years we spent turning the 1970's house we bought "as is" into our home - which we call "Pagoda".

Last time we took a look at our daughter's bathroom and this post we'll wander into the master bathroom and take a look at my vanity.  There is no "before" shot of a vanity because there wasn't a separate vanity per se.  The new master bath is in what was mostly the old garage section of the house but to refresh - the master bath entrance before...

The new entrance to our master bath...

That opening on the left goes into our closet - we're not going in there today.  Let's get a closer look at my vanity.

Kind of mix of old and new - that's the way I like things.  We had the vanity made and built in - I sanded and stained the whole thing before they installed to save money.  The handles are from Ikea (so is that mirror and plant pot btw).  The lights were from West Elm and you can't tell but there is white wallpaper on the back wall just for texture.  It has a raised bubble surface (I didn't photograph for some reason).  The vanity is where I do all my "getting ready" because we didn't put mirrors above our sinks - the view was just too lovely, we chose to put a window there instead.  I much prefer it.

You know what else is from Ikea?  This decorative bowl that I keep on the floor and use for a trash can.  Repurpose is my middle name.

Let's zoom in.  This is a tatty vintage painting I picked up at an estate sale specifically for this spot...

Another vintage print on the left wall.  I love this piece so I put it next to the opening of my closet, that way I'd see it more often.  I love art and think it really sets a tone for house - for me anyway.  Another estate sale purchase from years ago...

Some new and vintage holders for all those things a girl needs to keep close at hand...

Did you notice the awesome chair?

I know.  It's very old and was in my house growing up.  It's just one of the many things I convinced my mother to give me - nice mommy.  I will have you know this girl who cannot sew made a kind of slipcover for it.  The old fabric is still underneath - piping and all.  I sewed this cover thing and slipped it over and stapled it to the bottom -  DO NOT look too closesly.  It modernized the chair a bit and helped it match the room and it works well enough.  I'm kind of a "close enough" gal in these sorts of things.

That's our remodelled entry to our master bath.  I love my vanity but I realize, now looking at the photos, that I need a nice rug and perhaps that peacock photo is hung a bit too high.  DO NOT tell Andrew Henry - he said it was before we hung it and I told him to put it there because it was perfect.  He was right, but now there is a hole in the white wallpaper so we'll just pretend it's perfect - close enough anyway.

Jeanette, the pagoda is just amazing. I love these posts, a highlight of my day! Love the color in the bath, and love your repurposing, excellent idea, Mr. Deer is a bit attached to a little plastic trash can in the bath, we will be changing that soon! XX!

As usual - gorgeous!
I think I could sit there all day. Grab a book and one of your famous Ikea bottles of water (yep - can't forget those!) and I'm good! LOVE the peacock and friends picture ~ perfect for when you are trying to be as pretty as one ~ inspiration, no? Gotta tell you - have a little chair envy. I've done the same thing recovering chairs over the years - hey it works. But that chair - was perfect for your home even before you knew you'd have it! Kudos to that impeccable eye your Mom has as well!

I see Lola and Tokyo Milk there. Both are lovely. I love your vanity area. I was just talking about vanities with a friend. We have both lived in small city apartments with pedestal sinks for years and years. All my things are precariously balanced on the edge of my sink every morning. A vanity seems like such a luxury. And I can see the texture of the wall paper in one of the photos. Really pretty. You two are excellent DIYers.

What an eye you have Bronwyn! I love the Tokyo Milk, so sultry. The Lola was a recent gift from my mother - she bought it because it was my grandmother's name. The bottle is so pretty.

Love it all... every detail.
Your vintage estate sale art is lovely and I can't wait to see what you and Mr. EV come up with for the brick wall. It's going to be the icing on the cake.
A truly stunning transformation!
