brooklyn flea market...

I imagined strolling through the Brooklyn flea market with a chill in the air, wearing a sweater and feeling the crunch of leaves under my feet as I scoop up lots of bargain baubles to make jewelry. I did go to the Brooklyn flea market but that isn't exactly how it played out.

There was no chill, I wore no sweater, the leaves were still on the trees and a bargain in New York is not quite the same as a bargain everywhere else.

I baked.  I'm from Phoenix people and I'm telling you it was hot, I got sunburned.  Look at that photo, see anybody in a sweater?  Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled to be there and am glad to have finally had the opportunity to go, especially with my Mom who is a great bargain hunting companion, but the heat and higher than I'm used to prices left me a little wanting.

There were some interesting animals...

Funny Farm anyone?  I loved that movie...

this owl was $275 - seriously????

A piece I would have liked to stuff in my suitcase because I do love me some drawers...

They did have probably the best food stalls I've ever seen at any flea market...

I only bought a couple bits and bobs to make a few pieces of jewelry with...

and one vintage necklace that was too fantastic to pass up (it's already in my shop)...

Sorry I didn't take more photos.  I was hot.  Did I mention the heat?

How fun does that look!? What a vast array of stuff to look at! You could really get lost there - I mean, if you weren't dying of heat stroke, of course!
Going to check out your new necklace "find"!

Too bad it wasn't one short week later - you could have had that chilly sweater-clad stroll!
We are 60 degrees here in sunny FL - so I can't imagine how lovely and chilly it is up there in NY!!!
Welcome home happy wanderer!

Heat makes me unhappy, too. My daughter lives in Manhattan and loves to come home to the Midwest to shop for flea bargains!

That surprises me that it wasn't cooler. Everywhere around the country is talking about how cool it has gotten! It's even in the 70's here in MO :) I love NYC

Oh no Nicole, it is cool and like I said, the food was great, just not crazy bargains which I was hoping for. I found more at the Saint Charles market in Illinois and the Rose Bowl market in CA. Depends on what you're looking for. I'm always hunting for vintage jewelry and just found Brooklyn's prices to be what I sell pieces for in my shop. DO go if you have the chance.

Although those prices sound oh-so-NY, sadly, the gajillion drawers and those vintage jewelry pieces have me swooning (the heat wouldn't have helped, I'm sure!) I've lost my jewelry-making mojo and would love to see what you do with these pieces (I'm sure it would be totally inspiring :)).

Jeanette isn't exaggerating. When we met up at the end of the day, she had a sun burn! It wasn't very fall-like that day. But hey, it was an adventure!

The heat is killing me too. Although, I guess I can't complain since I do to choose to live in Tampa. HA!

I hate it when the prices are ridiculously high such as that owl!?
At our market, most prices are high but you can find some reasonable prices too. There's nothing like a great estate sale though to get you back in the groove :)
Thanks for sharing you photos.
And I agree, one of the best things about a flea market is the food and people watching :)
