things i love thursday...

Food food food this week.  First up is applesauce.

I almost never eat the stuff, just never have a hankerin'.  I know it's great with pork or turkey but being a vegetarian rules those out for me.  I read a super easy recipe over on the very lovely, Laura Ingalls Gunn's blog Decor to Adore, last week and decided to give it a go.  I cut the recipe in half because there are only two of us and I didn't want mountains of applesauce.  I'm was very sorry and have since made another batch.  It was crazy good, like we spooned it on ice-cream good.  Plus the house smelled heavenly all day.  I highly recommend it.

Something I've always loved is banana bread.  It's kind of a pain to go through the effort of making a gluten-free loaf so I don't - miss it.  I have mountains of brown bananas in the freezer and some new neighbors so I decided to make them a loaf yesterday.  The middle stayed gooey.  I couldn't keep cooking it because it was getting dry and the ends were way overdone.  What the heckschmeck?  I've made it a million times before.  Anyone know why this happened?  Anway, I salvaged the parts that were still moist (but not gooey) and made Andrew Henry some banana bread french toast for breakfast this morning.  He loved it so it made the list today.

We're still loving our new popcorn maker - especially when we mix in pepper and peanut M&Ms.  Just crazy good.  Do you have any fun ways you eat your popcorn?  I'd love to know, we're popcorn experimenting.

I cannot eat my pork chops unless they are covered in applesauce. And when I got to the movies I buy a bag of M&M's to mix into my popcorn. I gotta try your popcorn popper - I eat popcorn almost every day!

I love to pour sno-caps into my bowl of popcorn when I'm at home! At the movies I get a box of Milk Duds and hold two between my back tooth and cheek - the Milk Duds melt while I eat the popcorn and it tastes just like carmel corn!

The applesauce and banana bread french toast look scrumptious! The popcorn concoction is such a colorful creative mix. I don't make popcorn at home so haven't got a suggestion for a recipe. Not being a lover of the culinary arts I don't know what to suggest for your banana bread problem.

Yum! I've been wanting to try making applesauce. I'll have to bookmark that recipe. The banana bread - do you have an oven thermometer? Your oven may be running hot. That happened to me too. All of the sudden every cake I made burned on the outside and were goody slop on the inside. I got a little thermometer that attached to the inside of the oven with a magnet ot hangs from the rack and it turns out my oven was running 75 degrees too hot. Banana bread french toast sounds really good though. Mmmm... I'm hungry now.

Please - what do you mean by brown bananas in the freezer? Here in the UK we have no such thing and I really would like to try using some.

Mmmm - gonna try the applesauce.
As for popcorn idea - we sprinkle a gourmet "real cheese" Italian cheese blend all over our while warm - instead of salt. My mini-men LOVE it!

And yes AH, you are a very blessed/lucky man - for so very many reason s (but then JMM is also equally blessed - as is MJM)

I'm ALL OVER the cheese idea, one of my many weaknesses. Full cups cousin, full cups.

I love banana bread and the idea of putting strawberries on it sounds like a great way to freshen up a basic recipe. Thanks!
