things i love thursday...

Let's start with food because that always makes everybody happy.  Picked these up in December as a "just in case" I got some breakfast or late night company I wasn't prepared for.

Have never seen them before but they looked interesting so I gave it go.  Finally got around to making them for Andrew Henry (by making them I mean putting on a cookie sheet in the oven).  He gave them rave reviews.  I served them with a little jam and powdered sugar but I think lemon curd might be perfect...

Also, made this strawberry sauce but substituted agave syrup for the sugar - big hit!  This stuff is delicious and so gosh darn easy.  It would taste great on just about everything.  I put it on crepes I made AH (not gluten free) and he now loves me even more.  I love the almond extract in it.  I adore the smell of almond extract...

Now here's a little surprise (to me).  I ran out of my beloved Mrs. Meyer's countertop cleaner the other day and remembered I had this in the cupboard.  Never used it before but put a few squirts in my empty bottle and filled the rest with hot water.

Wow, this stuff really works.  Cleaned my cooktop easily and the light peppermint smell is nice.  I might be converted, yes I just might.

What are you loving today?

How weird - I have been to Denmark so many times, but never seen those before. Sounds yummy, though.

I have always seen the peppermint soap but have never bought it. I am addicted to Ms. Meyer's geranium scent. :)

I LOVE the look of those pancakes! I think both lemon AND lime curd would be great!

Can not WAIT to make that strawberry sauce for my little men - and you know all the women in our family have a thing for marzipan - thus our whole draw to the almond smell :-D *swoon*

I love that AH gets "paid back" like THIS for all work he does "while you are sleeping".

And that soap - we have used it for years - LOVE it! We dilute it and use as a shower and hand soap.
But you must know - he also makes an ALMOND one that is divine!!

The pancakes are SO GOOD. For those of you that live in Seattle, a lady makes them at the Fremont market. I strongly recommend purchasing them. You should probably buy about 6 more than you think you can eat.

Also, that cleaner cleans everything. I use it as shower gel! It's wonderful.

Ok, I've been eying those pancakes for weeks. Will have to give them a try. I always get Dr. Brommer's bar soap but have never actually tried the liquid. May have to give that a go as well. Lately I have been loving lentils. I overdid it on them years ago and haven't been been able to eat them for a long time.

Mmm! Will have to pick up some of the pancakes this weekend! Just pop them in the oven? My kind of cooking!
We used castile soap when I was growing up. I have a bottle of the Trader Joe's liquid castile in my shower, love it. I use it on my hair once a week to cleanse it of shampoo and conditioner residue...wonderful shine!

Love the strawberry sauce! It makes everything better. And yes, I'm loving my wife more for making it. :-)

I'm also loving the fact that it's going to be 70-degrees and sunny today. Nice.

Those Danish pancakes look scrumptious!! And Dr. Brenner's - what a flash from the past - we all use to use Dr. Brenner's for everything when we were in college.

Yuuuuum! I think this might be calling my name! I'm loving my blue cheese potato soup that I made last night. The blue cheese is rather subtle, making it even more delicious!

I was just going to ask if the Trader Joe's pancakes were gluten free, then I read your post again and saw you made them for AH.
I have seen them at Trade Joe's but never picked them up, I just might now.

Today is just a beautiful day in Tucson and I am able to live here makes me happy.

cheers, parsnip
You sound like your better, that is also something to be happy about.

The soap reminds me of Kirk's Castille soap from my childhood.

you know that soap is a great hand soap, fruit and veggie wash, and Janet at the Gardener's Cottage says it's the BEST laundry detergent too. Best scent is lavender.

These are called:Aebleskiver's

Here's a quote from Slovang, Ca.

Back in the good old days, when the Vikings were roaming up and down the coasts of Europe and the waters of the Atlantic, one band of these Vikings had been particularly hard hit in battle, so, when they got back on their ship with their horn helmets and shields all dented and banged up, they decided to have one of their favorite dishes to help them regain their strength ---- pancakes!!

In those days they did not have modern conveniences such as frying pans, so, they greased their shields and poured the pancake batter on them over the fire but, guess what!

Aebleskiver!!!

Now this is Karl Jorgensen’s theory. I like to add a little speculation to this. Suppose this little band of Vikings could have been Leif Ericsen and his men and they were fighting the "braves" at Vinland!! Then aebleskiver were served here in this country over a thousand years ago for the first time. Now, don't ask me if they served them with powdered sugar and raspberry jam at that time.

At “Danish Days” here in Solvang, which is often referred to as “Aebleskiver Days,” it has been a tradition for local people to set up their giant size pans in the streets and serve them to people from all over, who come and help us celebrate these days. This celebration has been gong on for years and it is getting more and more popular.
